As the new year comes to a close my mind is buzzing with resolutions for 2007, and I feel quite excited about all that it may hold. Having read a piece entitled ‘Dear Diary’ in today’s ‘Observer’ I feel convinced that recording one’s thoughts and feelings is definitely of value (to oneself if no one else!) and agree with the Greek philosopher Socrates that ‘the unexamined life is not worth living.’ In the newspaper article Peter Conrad made the comment that ‘the unrecorded life may not have been lived at all’- a convincing statement containing some truth I think.

As Christians journalling or noting down things as we spend daily time with God is essential to our Christian walk (I believe) as it helps us focus on what we are learning, and helps us in our journey towards spiritual maturity. It enables us to grow and be creative, and also see where we have come from.

One of the daily devotional books I have put aside to use in my quiet times in 2007 is a little book entitled ‘Growing Spiritually’ By E.Stanley Jones (printed in UK 1954!) and on the flyleaf of the book he says:’If you are not a creative and growing person, you are an unhappy person.’ I am aspiring to be creative in 2007 and long to grow in my spiritual walk.

My dream is to become a freelance Christian writer and to that end I hope and pray that 2007 will be a year of writing. I probably have too many notebooks and journals on the go at the same time (!) as well as blogging but I trust the new year will bring some order and organisation to my thoughts. On of my new year’s resolutions is to write a private journal daily and my blog weekly but time will tell if that transpires.

I praise God for 2006 with all its joys and sorrows, and thank him for 2007 and the privilege to enter a new year of life on this planet. May it be the best year ever!
