I love people’s stories and I’m inspired by people who’ve left their mark and made a difference, most of them now in heaven. One of my favourite movies is Chariots of Fire (I have a dusty copy on video in the shed) and I believe Eric Liddell was an inspiration. He ran with his head thrown back and his eyes on the goal, undeterred by any obstacles and he was fast. His sister couldn’t understand why his running was so important to him but he responded - ‘God made me fast, and when I run I feel His pleasure.’

Eric was not only a runner; he went out to China as a missionary, where he served for a number of tears before dying prematurely of a brain tumour. His final weeks were spent in a POW camp & he was there with a large number of missionary children, boosting their morale with running and sports whilst they endured the long separation from their parents.

I would love to run fast but more than that I seek God’s pleasure on every area of my life, on all I think, say and do. I want to run with my head thrown back and my eyes on the goal, focused and undeterred.
