Does anyone out there watch the West Wing? It’s a firm favourite of mine at the moment and the battle for the democratic candidate kept me gripping my seat as I completed series six. Jimmy Smits entered the fray as the likeable and “would get my vote any day” Matthew Santos and I am about to embark on the final season and see if he makes it to the Whitehouse!

The great thing about this show is that the heros are people you can believe in. Santos is a man of integrity; he doesn’t tear down the opposition with malicious words or negative adds, and doesn’t allow himself to be manipulated in order to gain votes. He is a man of his word and seeks to promote truth, someone you would be proud to see serving on the frontline.

As Christians we love to be inspired by people who stand up for what they believe in whatever the cost, who hold onto truth, and seek to serve their Saviour with integrity. We can be those people.

Serving on the frontline will mean swimming against the tide as we seek to be counter-cultural and promote the gospel, but it’s the only place to really live, sacrificing all for something that will last forever.
